SearchGPT SEO Secrets Exposed: Maximize Your Ranking Potential
How does SearchGPT SEO really work? After spending countless hours analyzing 528 search results, I've uncovered the top four SearchGPT ranking factors that can help you outshine your competition and harness the power of this new search engine.
1. Keyword Placement
First up is keyword placement. A staggering 94% of the top search results featured an exact or partial match keyword in the title tag. For instance, if we consider the search term "AC repair Coral Springs Florida," 100% of the results included "Coral Springs" and a variation of HVAC or air conditioning in their titles.
Looking at the top-ranking results, we see Angie at number one and Quality Air Conditioning Company at number two. The latter has a perfectly optimized title tag that includes both the core service—air conditioner repair—and the target location, Coral Springs, along with an optimized URL structure.
The good news? SearchGPT's algorithms rely on ranking factors very similar to those of Google. You might have heard that SearchGPT uses Bing to fuel its results, which is logical considering OpenAI's partnership with Microsoft. However, my analysis found that only 50% of SearchGPT results match those of Bing and Google. Interestingly, 76% of SearchGPT results align with DuckDuckGo, which utilizes over 400 sources and an in-house crawler for its search results.
To optimize your website, ensure it's crawlable and indexable on both Bing and Google. You can do this by importing your website from Google Search Console into Bing's Webmaster Tools and checking that your sitemap is current.
2. Topic Coverage
Next, we have topic coverage. Like Google's algorithm, SearchGPT favors pages that perfectly match the search intent and provide ample information about the topic. The more thoroughly you cover your topic, the better you’ll perform in search engines.
Utilizing tools like Rankability's Content Optimizer, you can see the exact topics your competitors cover. Simply copy these topics, create a comprehensive outline using ChatGPT, and then paste this back into Rankability to assess your outline's effectiveness. If it hits the optimal score, you're on the right track!
Differentiate your content by adding unique ideas about your brand, such as your unique selling propositions, customer stories, results, case studies, buyer guides, or FAQs. This approach will help establish your website as an authority on your topic.
3. Keyword Rich Domains
Third on our list is keyword rich domains. About 27% of the ranking results had either an exact or partial match domain. For example, if your target keyword is "St Louis SEO," including that phrase in your domain name can be incredibly effective.
For instance, domains like AmishBaskets.com dominate for "Amish baskets," while mortgagecalculator.org ranks well for "mortgage calculator." However, keep in mind that exact match domains can be limiting if you plan to broaden your topic focus or geographical area.
4. Website Authority
Finally, we arrive at website authority. The top-ranking results in my study had a median authority score of 38 and boasted around 74,000 backlinks. The average domain age for these results was 15 years, which suggests that while domain age itself isn't a ranking factor, longer-established domains tend to gather more backlinks.
To boost your backlink count, consider using SEMRush's Backlink Gap tool to identify links your competitors have that you don’t. Then, narrow that gap by reaching out to websites that link to your competitors. Another effective strategy is digital PR. You can sign up for tools like Connectively or use services like Search Intelligence to gain powerful backlinks by contributing expert insights to other websites.
Bonus Material on SearchGPT
- SearchGPT does not prioritize UGC-driven websites like Reddit or Quora, which Google favors due to their business deals.
- Over 90% of citations in SearchGPT are pulled from the top search results, so ranking well in traditional search results is crucial.
- The same domain can occupy multiple spots for the same keyword, enhancing visibility.
- Content freshness is vital, with most results being less than a couple of years old.
- This new search paradigm requires you to think differently about SEO and citations—backlinks remain a powerful factor.
